Elizabethan Harpsichord Recital

  • Online Recital - Follow Link below (map)

For the Bristol Early Music Festival 2021:

The video will be released at 7.30pm, and will be followed by a live Question & Answer session with the artist.
The video will be available until May 14.

This programme will include a rich selection of Elizabethan keyboard music centred around William Byrd and his contemporaries. Keyboard music at this time reached a whole new level of power and expression, with each composer bringing an intensely personal approach to their repertoire. Elizabeth I herself adored music, and it was said that she often played the virginals or harpsichord in order to banish melancholy. Inspired by this notion, Nathaniel will perform music by Gibbons, Tomkins, Phillips and Byrd in order to lift and soothe the spirits:

William Byrd - Pavan: The Earl of Salisbury
Orlando.Gibbons - Fantasia
Byrd - My Lady Nevell′s Ground
Byrd - the Queen′s Alman
Anon - Variations on the Romanesca
Byrd - Will yow walk the woods so wilde
Peter Phillips - Passamezzo Pavan and Galliard
Thomas Tomkins - Ground
Tomkins - Barafostus Dreame
